More sick days with Blake means more super simple DIY projects from me! Today I’m showing you this easy DIY save, spend, share bank. During Blake’s nap the other day I had a chance to read Make Your Kid a Money Genius (Even If You’re Not), the latest from Beth Kobliner available at Amazon.com. Financial literacy is a topic that’s close to my heart. Yet I often question if I have the right tactics to teach my own kids to be financially aware and in control. Good old motherhood doubt!

Donut Valentine Printable

January 31, 2017 By Jillian Warner

Call me a total cheeseball but making punny printable valentines is one of my favorite things to do each year. After I’m done I’ll usually show Kayla all of the different ones I created and let her decide if she wants to use any of them for her class valentines at school. It took Kayla about three seconds to decide that this donut valentine printable was her favorite this year.

Winter in San Diego is not known for being particularly harsh. Okay, I’m originally from New York. San Diego winters are a joke by comparison. However, what most people don’t realize is that we get some crazy temperature swings. You can wake up to 30 degree weather and by noon have a 75 degree day. When the sun sets the temperature drops and parents like me are cranking up the heat to keep our little beach babies warm.

Which is wonderful when you wake up in your flannel sheets feeling toasty. Except for one thing. That awful dryness  you can feel from your fingers to your nose to your toes. These days I wake up in the middle of the night and can already feel how dry my hands are before the day even starts. [Read more…]

I Have Receipts – DIY Receipts Envelope

January 27, 2017 By Jillian Warner

It is no secret that I love myself a little DIY project. To me, every project is an opportunity to learn something new, take ownership of the process and feel pride in the finished product. Taking the time to be creative exercises the innovative muscles in my brain, creating a creativity snowball effect. It also gives a much needed break to the ones that deal with email correspondence and spreadsheets.

Every January I start a new file to store financial papers I collect throughout the year for business expenses. Receipts, contracts, check stubs and 1099’s. A couple of times a week, I gather these papers together from my desk, handbag and kitchen counter and stash them away for tax time. So it felt all too appropriate to do a little DIY project and customize this stylish envelope with the cheeky phrase ” I have receipts.”
