Make my DIY Elena of Avalor party backdrop! It’s an Elena of Avalor inspired floral pegboard that makes the perfect backdrop for your party table. Thanks to Disney Junior for sponsoring this project.
About a year ago, Elena of Avalor quickly made her way into our hearts. I was excited to see a princess who didn’t act like a conventional princess, waiting to be rescued by a prince. Instead, Elena was bold and independent, while also open to constructive criticism and teamwork. A role model that went much deeper than a pretty dress or magical powers.
Suffice to say Kayla is especially excited that Elena of Avalor is returning with new episodes every FRiYAY this summer! Did you know that new episodes of Disney Junior programs are airing first during the morning block (6-10am) on Disney Channel this summer?
There is a new episode starring Mateo coming July 21st where he takes on a wizard in training. Kayla is a Mateo fan and we’ve made a DIY tamborita before.
My simple Elena of Avalor party ideas have been a hit on Pinterest in the past and a while back I made these DIY Elena of Avalor hair clips as a party favor or activity. Those pretty orange flowers stuck with me and I thought I’d revisit them, but this time to create a floral pegboard Elena of Avalor Party Backdrop. It looks sophisticated but is fairly easy to make.
To make my floral pegboard backdrop, start by heading to a local home improvement store for a white pegboard. Most stores will cut it to any size you like, free of charge. I asked for a 24” x 24” piece which is shown here and couple of 24” x 36” piece to save for future projects.
Next, I headed to a craft store for some silk flowers. I kept with an orange and red color palette, looking to find some flowers that closely resembled the apricot mallow flowers that Elena wears in her hair.
Back at home, I grabbed a pair of wire cutters to clip flowers from their stems and pulled off some leaves to place behind the flowers on the pegboard. The best part about this project is there is no right or wrong way to do it. Just enjoy yourself and arrange them however feels right to you.
I simply layered in leaves, smaller flowers and larger flowers until they felt right. I found that for me, anchoring a large flower in the corner after placing all of the orange and red hues, I decided I wanted something to break them up a bit and added some small white ranunculus blooms to finish it off.
That was it! The silk flowers stayed in place without me gluing them down. If yours have thin stems or just won’t stay in place a hot glue gun will have them behaving in no time.
This pegboard can serve as a functional pegboard above a desk or as a picture perfect party backdrop. You can fill in the pegboard with printables, hang goody bags from hooks or leave it as a nice mostly white and floral backdrop for an Elena of Avalor party.
I have a bunch of easy Elena of Avalor party ideas here, but wanted to show you a few new tricks. I made the same simple popcorn, but added craft paper french fry boxes, wrapped some orange or red twine around them and finished them off with a silk flower. Easy, but looks nice, right?
If you’re not much of a baker or you’re pressed for time then it’s super easy to dress up store bought cupcakes. I simply snipped a few silk flowers and added them as cupcake toppers. My cupcakes were instantly Elena-fied and only took a few minutes!
You can tune in for new episodes of your favorite Disney Junior programs every FriYAY morning on Disney Channel all summer long. You’ll see Elena of Avalor or (Eyyyyennnna as Blake calls her), Sofia the First, Mickey and the Roadster Racers, The Lion Guard and Puppy Dog Pals.
