A date is nothing more than an agreement to spend time together. It doesn’t really matter what you do, where you go (or don’t go.) All that matters is that you’re together, right? As we reach the halfway point to yet another week in which I haven’t had the foresight to investigate babysitters Craig and I are planning for a date night at home.
I recently shared a simple idea for a date night in over on Instagram and thought it made sense to share it here as well. Our favorite place to go on a hot date is a local Italian restaurant. But obviously that’s NOT realistic all the time.
While I think it pays dividends, date nights are usually neither cheap (babysitters, Ubers, dining, etc.) nor logistically easy to pull off. There is nothing like BEGGING the super responsible neighborhood babysitter to please pencil you in. So sometimes you just have to bring the date home.
Which is something we are learning to do more frequently these days. All it takes is something special in the food or drink category that you consider a treat and something in the entertainment category that you’ll both enjoy.
Most nights we eat as a family with a few menu tweaks for the kids but on a date night at home we have cocktail hour while they eat dinner and save a nicer meal for after they are in bed…if we can wait that long. We’re not awesome at eating late these days but it sure is nice to eat a meal without getting up six times to fill a sippy cup, clean up a spill, break up a debate over a toy, etc. You know. Yes, you know all too well.
A bottle of prosecco (my favorite!) some herbed salami and perfectly aged parmesan to enjoy while our kids play with their new toy kitchen. I made this date night printable and grabbed a couple of board games. Babysitters and fancy restaurants is not a frequent reality for most of us, but we can all do this. A few yummy bites and the promise to be together. That’s really all you need for a date night in.
Want the date night printable? You can grab it right here! This printable is meant for an 11×14 frame. You can take it to your local copy/print store and ask them to print it on 11×17 white card stock and cut it down to 11×14. It costs just a couple of dollars to do and is a great reminder that it’s DATE NIGHT!
