Want some awesome back to school essentials made better? I’ve partnered with Skeeter Nut Free to curate these stylish and fun back to school picks. #SkeeterNutFree
You know you’re a parent when your Facebook and Instagram feeds are basically filled with photos of people’s children clutching signs indicating they are going back to school. Yes, the home stretch of back to school has arrived so I’m sharing a few of my favorite FUN and cool back to school items to start the year off. And maybe there’s a surprise at the end! Maybe.
A Standout Backpack
It goes without saying, right? Backpacks are a universal form of self expression for kids. Whether they are covered in licensed characters, doodles or spikes, kids rely on them to hold their important possessions and to stand out from the crowd. Literally.
Have you ever had to drop something off to school while your child was in class? And then attempt to determine which backpack was theirs from all of the super hero or Shopkins backpacks? Don’t even get me started on Frozen a few years back! With hidden pockets, comfortable straps and quality construction this spikey backpack is a top pick for me.
Something Super Silly
Everyone needs a giggle. Especially since it seems school has become so serious at such a young age. So even if it’s something small, I like to find a few laugh inducing things. Like this pencil case.
It unzips from a fairly plain looking case with monster eyes to a full mouth of shiny gold teeth that rack up giggles from both kids and adults. True story, I’m considering buying one for myself to keep all of my little photography essentials in.
Reliable Lunch Gear
Here is where I get picky as a parent. Lunch boxes and water bottles are not the place to skimp in the back to school budget. You rely on them to keep food cold and not to leak. Because nothing will ruin your Tuesday quite like cleaning a backpack that reeks of spilled dairy and trying to dry homework with a hairdryer while your child is in tears. Yep. That mom life.
I’m a longtime fan of S’well bottles for their ability to keep beverages cold all day long. And since Craig and I have had it up to HERE with packing, unpacking, cleaning and drying a million little containers we’re giving these bento boxes a try. They’re great for serving up kid size portions of fruit, veggies and mains and even have a little space for a treat.
If you’re going bento style, then it seems food picks are a must. Of the bazillion food picks I found on the internets, these funny eyeball ones were my favorite! What child wouldn’t appreciate these?
And That Treat I Mentioned
We can’t forget about that, can we? My kids certainly wouldn’t let us. I’ve talked about Skeeter Nut Free before and how my kids LOVE their snacks. The house favorite seems to be the chocolate chip cookies. Because a chocolate chip cookie will solve almost any problem. Except perhaps long division.
Kayla could not wait to rip open a package of these not so ordinary cookies and I can’t blame her. If the name doesn’t say it all, Skeeter Nut Free cookies were created by dads who wanted safe options for their own kids with nut allergies. These days many schools have policies banning foods that include nuts because exposure for kids who are allergic can be tragic.
While it appears that neither of our kids have nut allergies, we have plenty of friends who do. And of course as parents we can’t be responsible for everyone else’s kids all of the time, BUT we can make small decisions that support inclusiveness and maybe make the world a little less scary for parents of kids with allergies, right?
Yes. It’s totally possible to give your kids the things they want (because these cookies taste really good!) and keep others in mind too. See where you can find Skeeter Nut Free snacks here.
