Need an impromptu holiday party spread for drop in guests or a last minute party? I’ve got some simple ideas to help you put together a great looking and tasting snack and beverage table on a moment’s notice. There is no question that the holiday season is my favorite time of year. The music, the lights, the ability to spoil the ones you love. All of it. And then there are the get togethers. Carefully planned with each dish and piece of decor thought out weeks in advance. Or perhaps if you’re more like me, created on the fly and assembled in a matter of minutes. Most likely with a tiny human hanging from your knees. Oh yes.
Last week we had some out of town friends pop by and then stay for dinner. It was wonderful to spend time with them as we all just get along so well and our children play beautifully together despite their large age range. It got me thinking that I’d like to be better prepared for more impromptu get togethers this holiday season so I thought I’d show you a quick and easy holiday snacking setup you can use if you find yourself with some loved ones popping in at a moment’s notice.
I kept things simple. If you have just a few trusty serving or decor pieces the rest is negotiable. I started with a simple beverage dispenser filled with water and a wooden serving bowl I’ve been using for years and guests always ask about. To keep things interesting I grabbed an enameled colander, added a clean kitchen towel to it and filled it with shortbread and cookie butter sandwich cookies. I filled a couple of wine glasses with flaky, savory cheese straws and sweet cocoa batons.
Next I added some simple ramekins filled with my mother in law’s absolute favorite treat – BROOKSIDE chocolate. I set out some BROOKSIDE Dark Chocolate Pomegranate Flavor and a Clos Du Bois Pinot Noir to start because they pair perfectly. Then I decided to add a Merlot and BROOKSIDE Dark Chocolate Acai & Blueberry Flavors as well because sharing IS caring when it comes to chocolate and wine. I am also a firm believer that chocolate and wine make just about anything fine 🙂
To complete the look, I grabbed some felt garlands I had picked up on one of the hundred or so Target runs I’ll do this month. It took just a minute to add them to the table and they made it feel a bit more merry. I’ll create a more elaborate version of this table in a couple of weeks when we have a TON of family in town for the holidays so everyone can help themselves throughout the day as we wrap, laugh, bond and make memories.
