Beyond Football There is Family – MyNFLFanStyle

December 5, 2015 By Jillian Warner

Ten years ago this month I met my husband Craig in a very sliding doors like scenario. In hindsight we couldn’t have been more different. I was a fashion loving, NYC dwelling, I’ll be here until I DIE kind of girl who literally could not care less about sports. He was a beach living, easy going, football loving kind of guy.

Through some twist of sappy fate that I still can’t fathom, we ended up cuddled together on a sofa yelling at the TV on any given Sunday while I learned the rules of the game. Two sofas, two dogs and two children later you’ll still find us there. Though these days it’s a few minutes here and a few minutes there with a giggly kiss stolen between chasing tiny humans

While football has crept it’s way into my heart, my true passion is finding the perfect pieces of fan apparel that clothe the people I love the most. I love the hunt. Every year come November I start searching the web for the perfect shirts to gift my husband, a man who loves both the New York Giants and the San Diego Chargers. I’m always looking for something a little different, retro and higher end. Now that I’ve squared those away (and I’m not sharing because for ONCE I am not going to spoil his presents) I decided it made sense to outfit his co-watchers with some cute gear too.

Junk Food has and probably will always be my favorite brand of NFL fan gear and I love that I can find so many pieces on NFLShop.com Their vintage style and more feminine cuts feel made for the ladies instead of just taking a man’s shirt and making it in women’s sizes.

I quickly found a retro style Giants shirt I adored. It feels perfectly distressed in that old familiar favorite shirt kind of way and is just completely my style. I even found something for Kayla, my mini-me. Another Junk Food shirt available in children’s sizes and just too cute to pass up.

Game ready and Giants clad we did an old favorite craft of mine, DIY penalty flags. They’re super easy to make and only require a few components. I highly recommend making some if you’re having a group over to watch the game. Because let’s be honest, the only thing more fun than screaming GO GO GO GO GO at the TV is also throwing around some flags and arguing over who’s making the right call.

We had fun. And it’s possible we got a bit silly. Because really, football isn’t just about football. Beyond the actual game there is family, yes those crazy people who you love and sometimes want to noogie  mid-game. There are traditions like outfitting the entire family in gear from your favorite team. There is food, HELLO excuse to eat anything involving wing sauce!  And of course there is fun to be had. Whether it’s throwing the ball around, jumping up and down on the couch or unleashing your crafty side.
