Need a baby gift for a third or fourth baby? It doesn’t get more practical than my baby essentials basket. This post was sponsored by Sam’s Club®, however, the text and opinions are all my own.
Giving gifts for a first baby is easy. The parents are generally starting from nothing and they probably have a baby registry overflowing with fun, fancy things. First baby gifts are the best! Now fast forward a bunch of years and we’re talking second, third and even fourth babies. Those little guys are harder to buy for. Their parents have storage bins overflowing with gear, blankets and clothes. Their parents have become more practical over the years. For these babies, what their parents really need are the essentials. Lots of ’em.
What are the essentials? Diapers, wipes, baby toiletries and poo-containment contraptions. The items you always need for each child, every time. The basic baby things that you go through like crazy and will be oh so delighted to find stocked in the nursery just when you think you’ve run out, it’s 10pm and you’ve been up since 4am. So with a friend expecting her third boy in 5 years very soon I put together a new mom (third time around) survival kit of some baby essentials for her. Yes, a laundry basket full of them.
Because nothing goes with babies like laundry. And I’ve learned it’s the little things we moms appreciate the most. Like a new, crack-free, never-been-turned-into-a-car laundry basket. To stretch my budget as far as possible I went to Sam’s Club where scoring the name brand products moms love in bulk at very reasonable prices is an everyday reality.
Doing the math on Diaper Genie refills alone purchased there versus even other big box retailers showed me the membership very quickly paid for itself. I also discovered that name brand diapers like Huggies were significantly less expensive than I was used to seeing them for. Even the unit price for things like Aveeno baby wash was about 30% cheaper than the shelf price I’m accustomed to seeing.
You know what the best part is though? You can shop Sam’s Club from the comfort of your computer while clutching your favorite mug full of mom fuel and have most items delivered to your doorstep with free shipping. Did I mention I have no known allergies except paying for shipping? Fact. And those savings go beyond just baby items. Think groceries, fresh food items and bigger purchases like DSLR cameras, my favorite thing to ogle. But back to baby things…
After stocking up on diapers, Diaper Genie refills and more I took the money I saved and bought one item I found very useful the second time around, a little Boppy Newborn Lounger. Every baby deserves a few new things and every mom appreciates a gift or two in an of the moment pattern or color. Then I realized I had some washi tape in a pattern that went really well with that newborn lounger so I used it to add some colorful accents to the Diaper Genie. It added just a bit of color and my friend can easily remove it if she wants. And that was it! Now she’ll have a ton of those basic necessities when she needs them!
