I have partnered with oogaa to share our teething adventure with you.
Teething. Okay, I know it’s not really a four letter word, but one could make the case for it. I’m trying to think of some positive context for the word teething but I have NONE. Teething. Weaning. Toilet training. Oh my! Does anyone else need an adult beverage when contemplating that lineup? This photo pretty much sums up how Blake feels about it.
At six months old, he has been teething for a couple of months now with no little pearly whites to show for it. It’s kind of like being 36 weeks pregnant when everyone (whether you know them or not) says it might be ANY day now. Poor Blakey. As a mother it naturally becomes your mission to find anything that will placate the baby. ANYTHING.
If gnawing on frozen $100 bills was medically safe and soothed him, I’d seriously consider it because my mom heart breaks knowing just how frustrating and painful the process must be. Fortunately, I did not have to resort to 90’s rap video tactics to help the little guy. In fact my favorite solution is only about $8 so save that money for date night…or new shoes since your old ones probably don’t fit your post pregnancy feet! A few weeks back, my friend Sam over at oogaa said she wanted to send me some of her spoons and bowls to check out. She makes adorable little spoons that take the game of airplane during feeding time to the next level. Yes, please!
Buried within that box was a silicone teether and I didn’t think much of it until I was walking by my desk a week later with a fussy baby, saw it, washed it off and offered it to him in an effort to earn myself one minute to make a cup of coffee. And he freaking loved it…
oogaa’s teethers are made of soft, flexible silicone and have easy to hold handles. I truly think the handles on this elephant teether are a huge part of what makes it the house favorite. Blake can easily grip it and hold it independently for long periods of time. The shape of the Oogaa teether lets a baby get it into their mouth enough to work on those front and middle teeth, but not far enough into their mouth to make themselves gag. At least not in my experience. And believe me, if it can be gagged on my children find a way.
It’s also nice that little man has found a proper outlet for his need to bite. In weeks past I had lovingly referred to him as our pet piranha. You’d lean in for kiss and the next thing you knew he was trying to eat your face. Literally. Another thing I love about modern day silicone teethers versus the water filled plastic ones of our childhood is you can throw them in the freezer or throw them in the dishwasher without worrying about them deteriorating or leaching nasty things like soft plastics do.
There are a few different designs available including the elephant and an octopus. The octopus has one hole, which means you can tether it to a stroller or shopping cart cover. However, the elephant is definitely our favorite and is getting us through this bumpy ride called teething.
All of oogaa’s silicone products meet European standards, which as you probably know are far more stringent and better for your baby than our US standards. Silicone tolerates freezing, dishwashing and electric sterilizers. It doesn’t corrode or deteriorate in the way that traditional plastics do and look, it’s just perfect for your little baby pirhana!
