I reviewed the Step2 Home Depot Sizzle & Smoke Barbeque Grill as part of my ambassadorship with Step2 and received a sample before it hit the stores so I could share my thoughts with you!
Spring is sort of here! For those of you who have been Polar Vortexed or Snowmageddoned, I’m sure you’re super excited. Here in San Diego I’ll admit that grilling season has already begun. Which is why all parties in our home were fully psyched when the Step2 Home Depot Sizzle & Smoke Barbeque showed up at our front door. Sure, it’s a toy grill, but trust me when I say it has a feature that will rock your child’s world!
For starters, it’s pretty darn authentic looking, don’t you think? It’s about as close to a mini Weber Genesis as I’ve ever seen in kiddieland. The height is great for a preschooler to man the grill and I would imagine a younger sibling could assist in grilling or drooling all over the very cute play food.
With clicking knobs and plenty of accessories like grill tongs, steak sauce and flatware the good news is there is enough to go around so it’s more likely to be a cooking collaboration than a battle over limited supplies.
And of course the crazy amazing feature that has me and my child totally mesmerized. The Step2 Home Depot Sizzle & Smoke Barbeque actually has real (okay, fake but real looking) smoke that comes from the grill grates! It’s seriously awesome. You don’t have to have a safety freak out because it’s just cool water vapor. Sort of like those cool mist humidifiers that are a baby registry requirement these days.
Want to see it in action and my thoughts via video? Want to check out my baby bump? (OMG everything is getting wider!) You can right here:
Can’ watch the video? I totally understand! Just keep reading – lots of cute pics below.
I assembled this toy barbeque while Kayla was at school. When she ran through the door after school and I told her to turn the middle knob on the barbeque, she shrieked with delight. She saw that red light light up and the mist coming out and the noise it made and just loved it.
You see that little hole to the left of the red light? That’s where you use a special (included in the box) squeeze tube to add some cool water which turns into the cool mist. What I was really surprised by was just how many times you could turn the knob on one refill. Kayla must have turned that knob 60+ times in the first couple of days and I don’t think we had to refill it for about a week.
Like I mentioned, the Step2 Home Depot Sizzle & Smoke Barbeque Grill comes with a bunch of accessories. My favorite ones would be the steaks. They are so cute and authentic looking AND I noticed that Step2 seemed to upgrade the material the steaks are made of versus their classic play food. This totally makes me smile because last year I did make a comment that while I loved the toy kitchen we checked out I wasn’t as in love with the play food it came with. These steaks are large and made from a stronger, more durable feeling material that seems like it will really stand the test of time.
One thing that instantly popped into my head when I saw these corn cobs was that it would be really fun to let Kayla wrap them up in foil like we do with our corn before throwing it on the grill. Granted my real preparation invovles butter, salt, pepper and a touch of cayenne pepper, but foil seemed to be enough for her. Of course she’s 5 now so it was age appropriate, I can’t say I would have given it to a two year old.
Last but certainly not least on my list was a “propane tank” that never seems to be running low. If you’ve ever invited people over for some swimming and grilling and then had your trusty better half run out of propane mid-cooking then you know the value of this. Not that I’m speaking from experience or anything… This cute little tank also has a clicking knob and the reassurance that your little one can grill till their heart is content.
If you think your child would go crazy over the Step2 Home Depot Sizzle &Smoke Barbeque Grill, you’re probably right and you can nab one at Toys R Us. I’ve got at least two children that come to mind who need one of these for their birthday this summer.
