Inspired a bit by the classic arcade game Skeeball I put together this DIY Monsters University party game! We’re just using it for fun in our home but I think it would be perfect for a birthday party. Want to know how I did it?
First I traced this giant bucket I use for Christmas decorations to make Mike’s circular body on some green foam sheets that you can purchase at most craft stores. I taped two together to get a nice sized body. Then I added little triangle ears to the outline and cut it out.
After that I cut enough 3″ wide foam strips to go around the outside edge of the body. I also cut some 2″ wide strips to make two smaller concentric circles inside.
Then to keep things looking clean I took a hot glue gun and added the eyeball in the middle of the body and then attached the two inner circles. I simply decided on what looked like a good gap between the different rings and glued them down. No crazy measurements or anything.
I brought out these adorable little Monsters University figurines that I had purchased when I made my fun and healthy monster juice…which is also perfect for a birthday party. Hint, hint.
I marked a line and let Kayla throw the little figurines to see how many she could get inside of Mike’s circles. The older the child, the farther away you can make that line. She tossed the monsters aiming for the middle circle and had a blast throwing them and counting how many she got in.
For a slightly older child I‘d certainly add point values to the different rings with the highest value going to the middle circle and let them tally up their scores. It’s a nice sneaky little math lesson too 🙂
If you’re curious about that Pre-order of Monsters University I was pleasantly surprised to find that you can simply purchase the Collector’s Edition at Walmart where the case contains a code to enter online and redeem so that the Blu-Ray and DVD are sent right to your home when the movie is released.
What’s even better is that with this edition purchased from Walmart they also included a code which you can use for a free movie ticket to see Monsters University or any Disney movie. Next week I’ve got a little girls night out planned with Kayla to go see Sully and Mike one more time and I like that I’ll only be buying one ticket for me! Oh and if you want to make that healthy monster juice – there is also a nice little coupon in the box to use toward Juicy Juice and some sneak peeks on Vudu.
