Have a special moment to celebrate? Want to make something that’s easy and fun, but clearly a treat to mark the occasion? Make my chocolate celebration bark. It takes just a few ingredients and very little time to make but is sure to make your child smile!
Here is what I used for my chocolate celebration bark. Feel free to change up the ingredients to you or your child’s taste. Feel free to eat a lot of the ingredients in the process. That’s the beauty of being a “grown up.”
- 1 – 12 ounce bag of baking chocolate chips.
- Teddy Grahams
- Mega M&M’s – these are three times the size of regular M&M’s and I found them in my local grocery store’s Valentine’s Day candy section.
- Food marker
I also used a 1/4 sheet pan (I use them for EVERYTHING!) which wound up being the perfect size and some wax paper to pour the melted chocolate on.
First, I lined my baking sheet with waxed paper and melted the chocolate chips in a Pyrex bowl in the microwave. I’m always leery or melting things in the microwave and figured it would end up burned but no, it actually came out perfect. For one bag of Chocolate chips it took about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes total to melt. I stopped half way through, checked the chocolate and stirred a bit.
At the end I used one of my favorite silicone spoons ( I have half a dozen and use them constantly) to stir the chocolate and ensure any last little bits of the chips melted. If you’re left with a few tiny pieces don’t make yourself nuts. This is supposed to be fun. I am no professional cook and your kids will NOT care. I poured the melted chocolate on the wax paper lined baking sheet and used the silicone spoon to spread it around.
The first decoration I added was those adorable Teddy Grahams. They are so cute I want to squeeze them! In case you’re wondering, in each box of Teddy Grahams there are ones with their arms up and ones with their arms down. I felt the arms up ones were more appropriate for saying YAY! Graham as you see fit.
Next I added those Mega M&M’s. I’m going to be honest with you, I didn’t realize I was buying jumbo M&M’s at the store, and at first I was all GREAT JILLIAN. Just great. Then after about 10 seconds of beating myself up I realized their giant size was absolutely perfect for writing on. They were printed with a Valentine’s Day message on one side so I just flipped those suckers over and use my food marker to write “YAY” on the other side. I popped them on to the chocolate and patted myself on the back for making lemonade.
And then there were sprinkles. Lots of sprinkles. I simply covered a good portion of the sprinkle shaker with my thumb to ensure they didn’t come spilling out and sprinkled away. If you’re paranoid about dumping them then put some in the palm of your hand and sprinkle them around until you’re happy.
Next, put the baking sheet into your refrigerator (preferably out of sight of tiny people) for at least 30 minutes. You can leave it overnight no problem. Once your chocolate celebration bark is hard you can use a large knife to cut it up and put it out to honor whomever or whatever it is that you’re celebrating. I truly believe that it’s these little things kids remember so much more than the big things we often focus on as parents.
