The last few weeks I have been racking my brains about what good gifts for Father’s Day are. My husband already owns a grill, a Fit Bit and a nice smart phone. He would get absolutely zero joy out of power tools but truth be told I think what he wants most is a free pass to act like a kid this summer. Behold, the Summer of DAD Fun Kit.
You see, it all started last weekend with a trip to my MIL’s house. He and Kayla stayed up late starting at the stars, listening to music all snuggled together and had one of those special father daughter moments you don’t dare interrupt. Then the next day they were having a water gun fight and with two teeny tiny water guns in hand he reminded me of Angelina Jolie in Tombraider. You know, except a middle aged man version with piñata favor squirt guns…almost the same. Almost.
Long story short, I thought that giving him all of the tools to act like a kid and have a total blast with his own kids this summer might be the perfect gift.
I grabbed a basic cooler and started filling it with things that screamed summer fun.
Here are some of the items I included:
- Manly water guns
- A soft tennis set
- A light up football to make the most of every last minute of daylight
- A scoop catch game – we already have Jabbit which we LOVE
- Hi Bounce easy grip balls (they even bounce on sand and grass!)
- Gummy Bear pool float – I nearly died when I saw this, my husband is a gummy bear freak.
- S’mores making ingredients – you might also like my S’mores in a jar gift
- Telescoping sticks for making s’mores
Last I decided to surprise my husband with a more manly feeling backpack that dual functions as a diaper bag.
He’s a total backpack guy and I figured the Skip Hop Duo Backpack would be good for hauling some of the Summer Of DAD fun kit gear to the park. I also figured it would be an upgrade from the plastic shopping bag he likes to take around town with diapers in it. Yep. With water bottle/sippy cup pockets, a hidden changing pad and plenty of space for diapers and summer fun toys I think he actually likes it.
