I created my NEST Fragrances Mother’s Day gifts as part of a sponsored post for Beautystat. As always, all opinions are my own.
For a lot of people, Mother’s Day means flowers. They’re beautiful! They smell wonderful! They wilt. Insert sad face here. Which is precisely why I like to give gifts that live on after a few days. If I’m giving a consumable, it almost always comes paired with something meant to stick around a bit longer. So this Mother’s Day rather than flowers I went with simple succulents and some candles and fragrances from NEST Fragrances.
The thing about mothers is we don’t realize just how crucial they were to our everyday survival until we become mothers ourselves. My first glimpse came when I experienced a real flu as an adult (okay, semi-adult) in college and no tray arrived at my bed with ginger ale and Saltines. There may have even been a liberty bell replica on the tray as a child. As I write this I am currently pondering if I can possibly live up to the very large jill-of-all-trades-even-a- dedicated-nurse shoes my mother has left to fill…
With two children of my own who I love more than life itself, I still can’t figure out how my mother found the time to draw pictures on brown paper lunch bags while raising four children. And I don’t mean a smiley face stick figure. I mean full on Snufalufagus or Ariel. But enough about that. Because seriously, I could go on and if I do I’ll be up all night.
Like appx. 98% of all mothers out there, my mother tends to put herself last. We all do it. It’s in our genetic mom coding. This year Kayla and Blake have made her their own handmade gift that I am pinky sworn to secrecy not to reveal. But beyond that I wanted to give my mother a little something that was just for her and maybe a little indulgence she wouldn’t normally treat herself to.
I chose the Bamboo scented candle from NEST Fragrances for its fresh, floral scent and paired it with the Dahlia & Vines Eau De Parfum, which gives you that whimsical, romantic vibe. My parents have been married for 40 years…despite the best attempts by me and my three sisters to drive them insane. The woman deserves something romantic feeling!
I added a little succulent and a teeny tiny decorative bird house to round out the nature inspired gift. This all went into a very appropriate little galvanized bucket with corded handles that I can see her reusing.
To top it all off, there’s a handwritten note. Admittedly, I’m not much of a card writer. Which is odd considering what a big part of my life writing is. However, I did write my mother a handwritten note. Do I think it does justice to everything she has done over the years? Nope. Not even close. There are people who need credit and people who don not (even though they deserve it.)
My mother definitely falls into the those who do not category. She does things because she wants to and 9 times our of 10 she won’t tell you she did them. You’re left to notice that they happened on your own. Like when she babysits for a few hours so you can get a much needed date night and you come home to realize the next day that all of the laundry is done and you don’t have to spend your entire weekend doing laundry. Really BIG little things. So mom, I want you to know. I know. And thank you. Seriously, thank you!
